Considering the limitations of ports on ultrabooks and tablets, what's the best portable USB hub for travel and mobile workstations? I'm looking for something compact, lightweight, and durable that can handle connecting external hard drives, a mouse, and occasionally a camera. Does the material of the hub impact its durability and heat dissipation? Are there particular brands or models that stand out in terms of portability and reliability while on the go? What are your experiences?

After trying several options, I've settled on the Anker USB-C Hub 7-in-1. It's compact but packs everything I need: HDMI output, USB-C PD charging passthrough, SD card reader, and 3 USB-A ports. The aluminum build has survived countless trips in my bag. Perfect balance of portability and functionality for around $40.

For travel and mobile work, a compact USB-C hub is essential. Look for one with multiple USB-A ports, and ideally an SD card slot. A metal hub can offer better durability and heat dissipation than plastic.
