Planning my next gaming build and torn between CPU choices. The recently released 9800X3D is showing incredible gaming performance in reviews, with its 8 cores and 3D V-Cache technology. However, the upcoming 9950X3D with 16 cores is just around the corner.
While gaming is my primary focus, I also do some content creation on the side. Budget isn't a major concern, but I'd rather not spend extra if the gaming gains are minimal.
For those who've been following these CPUs: Would you recommend grabbing the 9800X3D now or holding out for the 9950X3D? Any thoughts on potential price-to-performance difference?
I will get 9800X3D. Like previous 7800X3D is better than 7950X3D.
If gaming is your main priority, I'd grab the 9800X3D now. The gaming performance difference between 8 and 16 cores will be minimal since most games don't utilize more than 6-8 cores effectively. The 3D V-Cache is what gives these chips their gaming edge, and both models have it. For your occasional content creation, 8 cores is still plenty capable. Save the money and put it toward a better GPU or faster storage.
9800X3D is enough for most games.
