Hi everyone, I’m planning to apply thermal paste to my CPU and I’m unsure about the right amount to use. I’ve heard recommendations vary from a pea-sized drop to more precise measurements. How many grams of thermal paste are typically needed for a single CPU application? Are there differences for desktop vs. laptop CPUs or high-performance processors? Any guidance or personal experiences would be appreciated!

Just a small dot—about the size of a grain of rice—is all you need for optimal CPU cooling. Too much can actually be counterproductive, as it can spread unevenly or even make contact with other components. A thin, even layer ensures the best thermal transfer without wasting material. For a clean application, place the dot in the center and let the CPU cooler's pressure spread it evenly during installation. Less is definitely more in this case!
