I’m considering upgrading my CPU, and I’m wondering if the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X is still a viable choice in 2024. Has it aged well, or are there better alternatives now? Looking for insights from fellow PC enthusiasts!
Still one of the best selling CPUs at Amazon, so you can get this CPU.
It depends on your specific needs and expectations. If you're a gamer looking to push the limits with the latest titles at high resolutions and frame rates, you might benefit from a newer processor by 2024. However, if you're a content creator or professional who relies on strong multi-core performance, the Ryzen 7 5800X should still be a capable choice. It's important to consider your budget and the overall balance of your system when making a decision.
5800X is enough for everyday's work and for light gaming.
It's good, but not great by 2024 standards. The 5800X lacks support for some newer features like PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 RAM. If those aren't important to you and you're on a budget, it's still a solid choice. But if you want the best performance and future-proofing, consider investing in a more recent CPU.
I just upgraded to the 5800X myself. Given its performance today, I'm confident it will still benchmark well and meet my needs in 2024 and beyond. The AM4 platform also leaves open an upgrade path to faster Zen 4 CPUs down the road if I ever feel I need more CPU power.
Seems sold-out at Amazon now.
I'm currently using a 5800X with an RTX 4070, and all my games run perfectly at 1440p, 180Hz. I considered upgrading to the 5700X3D or 5800X3D, but since they only offer a 7% improvement in Apex Legends, it doesn't seem worth it right now.
