Looking to build a gaming PC around the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D. I'm aiming for 4K gaming at high refresh rates. Budget is flexible, but want to maximize performance. Already have a 32" 4K 144Hz gaming monitor. Thinking about pairing it with an RTX 4080 SUPER, but open to other GPU suggestions.

Hey everyone! Wanted to share my build centered around the 9800X3D. This is a high-performance gaming rig that should handle anything thrown at it at 1440p/4K.

Components:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 G2 LBC ($149.94)
  • Mobo: MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI ($229.00)
  • RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32GB DDR5-6400 CL30 ($124.99)
  • Storage: WD Black SN770 2TB PCIe 4.0 ($119.99)
  • GPU: ASUS TUF RTX 4080 SUPER 16GB ($1029.99)
  • Case: Lian Li LANCOOL 216 ($96.99)
  • PSU: Corsair RM850x SHIFT 850W Gold ($124.99)
  • Fans: ARCTIC P12 PST 5-Pack

Some thoughts on the choices:

  • Went with the NH-D15 G2 for cooling - it's overkill but super quiet and reliable
  • X670E TOMAHAWK has great VRMs and features for the price
  • 6400MHz CL30 RAM is the sweet spot for X3D gaming performance
  • 4080 SUPER gives amazing 4K performance without the extreme price of the 4090
  • LANCOOL 216 has excellent airflow and build quality for under $100

Total comes to around $1,875 without the CPU. Most parts from Amazon Prime for easy returns if needed.

Let me know if you have any questions about the build! Happy to share benchmarks once it's up and running.
