I'm looking for recommendations on the best docking station to support my setup with 4 monitors. I have a laptop that I want to connect to the docking station, which should then connect to the 4 external displays.

Key requirements:

  • Support for 4 monitors (preferably with HDMI or DisplayPort connections)
  • Reliable and stable connection
  • USB ports for peripherals (keyboard, mouse, etc.)
  • Decent build quality and performance

I'd prefer a solution that won't break the bank, but I'm open to options at different price points if the quality and features justify the cost.

Any suggestions or personal experiences with docking stations for multiple monitors would be greatly appreciated! Let me know what you think.

My studio uses the Targus USB C Universal Docking Station. Works well overall.

If you want a stable and powerful docking station, get the CalDigit TS4.

@show_me_2 TS4 seems doesn't support 4 monitors.

@shop-me I've used a few sub-$100 docking stations and have had fairly good experiences. Models from Anker, Sabrent, and even some no-name brands on Amazon have worked well for me as long as you set reasonable expectations.

The cheaper docks generally use more basic chipsets and connectors compared to high-end brands like CalDigit, but I've found them reliable for peripherals like drives, keyboards, mice, and monitors. Just don't expect to power a high-end gaming GPU or connect multiple 4K displays at high refresh rates.

Make sure any cheaper dock you buy has enough wattage/bandwidth for your particular peripherals. And check reviews to avoid models with serious performance or compatibility issues. With the right expectations, the affordable docks provide great value for everyday office use, travel, or minimalist setups.

For more demanding use cases like video editing or graphics work, I'd still recommend investing in a more capable premium dock. But in my experience, sub-$100 options work surprisingly well for basic expansion and port replication. Just do your homework first!
