I'm looking to set up a dual external monitor setup with my Dell XPS-15 9550 laptop, which has a Thunderbolt port supporting DisplayPort video. I'm confused about docking station prices on Amazon, ranging from $5 to $750. Is a $150 docking station sufficient for two 1920x1080 HDMI ports with a good refresh rate? Also, is there any technical drawback to using mixed video interfaces (e.g., one HDMI and one DisplayPort)? Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

For your needs, a $150 docking station is more than adequate, such as Anker 575. The super expensive ones usually offer features like multiple 4K outputs or high wattage charging, which you don't need.

Docking station like Plugable 13-in-1 USB-C Triple Monitor Docking Station with 100W Charging is recommended.
