I recently got my hands on an Xbox Series X and I'm looking to upgrade my gaming setup with a new 4K monitor. I want to make the most of the console's capabilities, so I'm seeking recommendations for the best 4K gaming monitor that's compatible with the Xbox Series X.

What features should I prioritize? I've heard about HDMI 2.1, 120Hz refresh rate, and VRR, but I'm not sure which ones are essential. My budget is flexible, but I'd like to get the best value for my money.

Has anyone had experience with specific models that work great with the Series X? Any advice on size, panel type, or brands to consider?

Recommended Models:

  1. ASUS TUF Gaming 28” 4K 144HZ DSC HDMI 2.1, Monitor (VG28UQL1A)

  2. Acer Predator XB283K KVbmiipruzx 28" UHD 3840 x 2160 Agile-Splendor IPS PC & Console Gaming Monitor

  3. MSI G321CU, 32" Gaming Monitor, 3840 x 2160 (UHD), VA, 144Hz, FreeSync Premium, HDR Ready, HDMI, Displayport, Tilt

  4. GIGABYTE M32UC 32" 144Hz (160Hz OC) 4K UHD Curved Gaming Monitor

  5. Sony 27” INZONE M9 4K HDR 144Hz HDMI 2.1 Gaming Monitor

These models all support the key features needed to get the most out of your Xbox Series X. The choice between them often comes down to personal preference on size, brand, and specific features.

When it comes to brands, LG, ASUS, Samsung, and Acer are all reputable manufacturers in the gaming monitor space. Each has its strengths, so it's worth reading detailed reviews of specific models you're considering.

Remember, while HDMI 2.1 is ideal, it's not strictly necessary if you're okay with choosing between 4K@60Hz or 1440p@120Hz in your games. However, for future-proofing and getting the absolute most out of your Series X, an HDMI 2.1 monitor is recommended.

The 27" LG UltraGear 27GP950 is an excellent gaming monitor that supports 4K @ 120Hz with HDR and 10-bit color for Xbox Series X, lacking only Dolby Vision. It can reach 160Hz when overclocked via DisplayPort for PC use. With two HDMI 2.1 inputs and a DisplayPort, it's versatile for multiple gaming platforms.

While it lacks built-in speakers, it features an LED lighting ring that enhances the gaming atmosphere, especially in dark rooms. The LED can sync with on-screen content for PC gaming, though this feature doesn't work with consoles.

RTINGS.com initially rated it as the best monitor for Xbox Series X with an 8.7/10 score. However, they now recommend the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 (32") as the top choice, scoring 9/10 for gaming. The larger size and higher price of the Neo G8 may not suit everyone's needs or budget.

Overclocking a monitor involves pushing it beyond its advertised refresh rate. Many 27" monitors can achieve 120Hz on Xbox (144Hz on PC) without overclocking, so it's not a necessity for high-performance gaming. The LG UltraGear 27GP950 offers an excellent balance of features and performance for both console and PC gaming.

I've been using the LG C4 42" OLED and it's fantastic for the Series X. Perfect 4K/120Hz, VRR support, and those deep OLED blacks make games look incredible. The 42" size works well as a monitor if you have the desk space. Just be mindful of burn-in risk if you use it for desktop work.
