AMD is reportedly developing a new graphics card, the RX 7650 GRE, which is expected to feature the Navi 33 GPU. This news has generated mixed reactions among tech enthusiasts, as it suggests the card won't offer a significant upgrade over the existing RX 7600 series.

The Navi 33 GPU, the least powerful in AMD's RDNA3 family, is already used in two desktop RX 7600 cards. It supports up to 32 RDNA3 Compute Units, equating to 2048 Stream Processors. Both the RX 7600 XT and non-XT variants utilize this 32 CU configuration, differing mainly in their TBP (Thermal Board Power) ratings.

The RX 7650 GRE's use of Navi 33, rather than Navi 32, limits its potential improvements. It's unlikely to exceed 32 CUs or expand beyond a 128-bit memory bus. The specific variant (XT or XL) and memory configuration remain uncertain.

Interestingly, the "GRE" in the name stands for "Golden Rabbit Edition," indicating it may be a China-exclusive model, at least initially. This regional focus makes a CES 2025 announcement improbable.

Despite potential disappointment over the use of Navi 33, the RX 7650 GRE could still outperform the RX 7600 XT through higher clock speeds or increased board power. While details about this card are limited, AMD is expected to discuss its next-gen RDNA4 series at upcoming events, providing insight into their future graphics strategy.
