I'm planning a new build with the Core i7-12700K Alder Lake CPU. From what I've read, this processor works best with fast DDR5 RAM thanks to its hybrid architecture.
I'd like to hear some recommendations on the ideal DDR5 memory kit to pair with the i7-12700K for primarily gaming usage but also some creative workloads like video editing.
My main priorities are stability, overclocking potential, and reasonably low latency. But I'm willing to spend a bit more for the right kit that will maximize the performance of the 12700K.
What speed rating, timings, and capacity would you suggest? Are there specific models or brands you recommend for optimal compatibility and overclocking? I'm considering options like DDR5-5600, DDR5-6000 or maybe even DDR5-6400 if the price difference makes sense for the performance gains.

Speed Rating & Timings For optimal performance with the 12700K, I suggest aiming for DDR5-6000 or higher. The sweet spot seems to be around DDR5-6400 with reasonably tight timings like CL36. This provides a nice balance of speed and latency.
While DDR5-5600 is a bit easier on the wallet, stepping up to 6000MT/s or 6400MT/s can provide measurable gains in gaming and memory-intensive workloads. It's worth the extra cost in my opinion, especially for a high-end CPU like the 12700K.
Capacity For your use case of gaming and video editing, 32GB (2x16GB) is the ideal starting point. This gives you plenty of headroom for memory-hungry games and creative apps. If your budget allows, jumping up to 64GB (2x32GB) can be beneficial for heavier video editing projects or if you plan to keep this system for many years.
