Hi everyone, I'm curious if anyone has insights or information on when we might see DDR6 memory hit the market?
With DDR5 memory just starting to become more widely available over the past year, I'm wondering how many years it will likely be until the next generation DDR6 makes its debut. I know the typical cadence has been a new DDR standard about every 5-7 years:
Based on this, I wouldn't expect to see DDR6 memory until at least 2025-2027 timeframe. But I'm not sure if development is ahead or behind schedule compared to the usual cycle.
From what I've read, it sounds like the DDR6 spec is still being developed by JEDEC, with speeds planned up to 12,800 MT/s, which is double DDR5. Apparently some test chips have already taped out.
Does anyone have any other details to share on DDR6 and when we might realistically see the first consumer products that support it? Will DDR6 require a new CPU socket and chipset like DDR5 did?
There are some rumors recently that DDR6 may coming in 2026.
We can expect DDR6 Memory very expensive at first.
Between 2026 to 2027.
DDR4 is still selling very well, thanks for AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPUs.
Why waiting for DDR6, you should wait for DDR10.
