Are ASUS OLED Monitors a Good Choice for Gaming?

Hi everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my gaming monitor and have been considering ASUS OLED options. From what I've read, OLED provides exceptional contrast, true blacks, wide viewing angles, and fast response times which all seem great for gaming.

However, I have a few concerns I was hoping to get input on from those with experience using ASUS OLED monitors for gaming:

  1. How is the input lag and overall responsiveness for fast-paced games? Will I notice any delays?

  2. I've heard OLED can be susceptible to burn-in if a static image is displayed for too long. Is this a legitimate risk with varied gaming use?

  3. Are there any issues with glare or reflections on the glossy OLED screen that could be distracting during gameplay?

  4. For ASUS OLED monitors specifically, how is the build quality, reliability, and customer support if any issues come up?

  5. Lastly, do you feel the visual benefits of OLED are worth the premium price compared to IPS or TN panels for gaming?

Any insights from ASUS OLED monitor owners would be much appreciated as I try to determine if it's the right choice for my gaming needs. Thanks!

The new ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM is the best choice for gaming, and still hard to find it everywhere.

I can provide some insights based on my experience and research:

Input Lag and Responsiveness

  • ASUS OLED monitors generally have very low input lag, typically under 5ms, which is excellent for fast-paced gaming. You're unlikely to notice any delays.
  • The fast response times of OLED panels, often 0.1ms or less, further contribute to a highly responsive gaming experience without motion blur.

Burn-in Concerns

  • While burn-in is a potential risk with OLED, it's less of an issue with varied gaming use compared to static content.
  • ASUS implements pixel shift and screensaver features to help mitigate burn-in risk. Avoid leaving static HUD elements on-screen for extended periods.
  • For regular mixed gaming, burn-in shouldn't be a major concern. It's more relevant for heavy users who play the same game with static elements for many hours daily.

Glare and Reflections

  • OLED screens do have a glossy finish which can result in some reflections, but ASUS includes an anti-reflective coating that helps reduce glare.
  • Proper room lighting placement and avoiding direct light sources on the screen can minimize distracting reflections.
  • Many users find the exceptional contrast and color vibrancy of OLED outweigh minor glare issues in a controlled environment.

Build Quality and Support

  • ASUS is known for their solid build quality and stands behind their premium OLED monitors.
  • While individual experiences may vary, ASUS generally has responsive customer support should any issues arise.
  • It's always wise to purchase from an authorized retailer and register your product for warranty coverage.

Value Proposition

  • Whether the benefits of OLED are worth the cost premium depends on your priorities and budget.
  • For enthusiast gamers seeking the best possible visuals, the unparalleled contrast, black levels, and color performance of OLED can justify the higher price.
  • However, high-end IPS panels also offer excellent gaming performance at a lower cost, so it comes down to how much you value the OLED advantages.

Ultimately, ASUS OLED gaming monitors deliver exceptional visual quality and performance that most users find worthwhile if it fits their budget. Just be mindful of the potential burn-in risk with extended static content and ensure your setup minimizes glare. Thoroughly research models within your budget and try to see a demo unit in person if possible.

I hope this helps with your decision! Let me know if you have any other questions.

For OLED monitor, I would prefer LG OLED gaming monitors, but ASUS ROG OLED is also not bad.
