I'm trying to troubleshoot some performance issues on my PC, and I suspect my chipset drivers might be outdated. However, I'm not sure how to check the current version of my chipset drivers. Can anyone guide me through the process of finding this information?

I'm running Windows 10 on a desktop with an Intel motherboard, but I'm not sure about the specific model. Are there any built-in Windows tools or third-party software that can help me identify my chipset and its driver version? Also, once I know the version, how can I determine if it's the latest one available?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi there! Checking your chipset driver version is fairly straightforward. Here's what you can do:

  1. Press Win+X and select "Device Manager"
  2. Expand the "System devices" category
  3. Look for entries like "Intel Chipset SATA/PCIe RST Controller" or similar
  4. Right-click on the device and select "Properties"
  5. Go to the "Driver" tab to see the current version

To check if it's the latest, visit the motherboard manufacturer's website and compare the version numbers.

I'd recommend using a free tool called Speccy by CCleaner. It provides detailed information about your system, including motherboard model and chipset. Once you have that info, you can visit the motherboard manufacturer's website to check for the latest drivers.

As for built-in Windows tools, you can try:

  1. Open Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. Type "wmic baseboard get product, manufacturer, version, serialnumber" (without quotes)

This should give you your motherboard details. From there, you can look up the latest chipset drivers for your specific model.
