Seems ROG Ally X now supports 2280 ssd, so which are top recommended SSDs for ROG Ally X ?

For 2280 SSD, they are much cheaper than 2230 SSD, and also much faster. You can take a look at top recommended 2280 SSD HERE.

2TB SSD is a good choice, such as Samsung 990 PRO SSD and WD SN850X.

I used 2TB Samsung 990 EVO SSD, works well and no problems.
