I'm looking to upgrade my editing rig with a new M.2 SSD, specifically for smoother video editing workflows. My current setup is struggling with 4K footage, and I'm hoping a fast M.2 drive will help alleviate those bottlenecks.

The WD Black SN850X offers a compelling alternative to Samsung's 980 Pro and 990 Pro SSDs. While Samsung drives boast high speeds, they may face reliability issues, potentially requiring frequent replacements. Despite firmware updates and manufacturing process improvements, these drives remain problematic. In contrast, the WD Black SN850X provides better reliability, efficiency, and consistent performance. For users prioritizing long-term stability over raw speed, the WD Black SN850X presents a more dependable choice in the high-performance SSD market.

For video editing, you'll want a high-performance NVMe M.2 SSD with good sustained write speeds and durability. I'd recommend the Samsung 990 PRO. It offers excellent performance for video work, with read/write speeds up to 7450/6900 MB/s. The 2TB or 4TB capacities should give you plenty of space for projects.
