I recently purchased a Samsung 990 PRO SSD with a built-in heatsink, now I need to remove it. I've heard it can be tricky, and I don't want to damage the SSD. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm up the heatsink. This helps soften the thermal adhesive.
Carefully pry up one corner of the heatsink using a plastic spudger or guitar pick.

You'll need a 5 pointed star 1.2 screwdriver tip to remove the 4 screws. Then, heat the SSD with a hair dryer or heat gun. This will help with the adhesives. Use a metal spatula or plastic prying tool to carefully pry up both sides. Be gentle and avoid damaging the SSD.
